Breakfast With the Classics
This free outreach program began over 10 years ago at Woodmeade Elementary. The music teacher at the time, Kay Grubbs, saw an opportunity to teach free violin classes during the breakfast time before school started, hence the name “Breakfast with the Classics.” A small group of students arrived at 7:15 every morning and learned how to play the violin. As this group grew, more stringed instruments were added such as the cello and viola, eventually creating a beginner string ensemble. With the help of additional Youth Symphony staff members and volunteers Kay sought to take this program to other schools that would benefit from this program.
