Aaron’s story

I started in 2010 working with Decatur Youth Services Camp Safe Haven. It went so well that we decided to continue through the school year with an after school program at Carrie Matthews. A few years later I was interested in doing a world percussion ensemble so we started my first one at the 3rd Street Boys and Girls club. It was a huge success and led to expansion into other clubs. That's when I started what I believe to be the first youth Cajon ensemble in the state at the Kids Teens and Tweens enrichment center. That group has played in front of thousands of people in 3 different states. Most recently I've been focusing on programs for students with special needs at both DCS AIM centers as well as a program for adults with special needs with Parks and Rec serving about 75 people weekly. Currently I have 7 separate ensembles, all actively performing at local community events and beyond. I also do countless pop up drum circles at housing projects, professional development sessions for local organizations, low impact drumming with senior citizens, 6 week elementary school programs, Percussion with the Police and many other programs and community events.
